Tokyo, Japan

Yamariya House

Yamariya is a Japanese tea house established in Kichijōji, Tokyo. Founded in 1949, it offers a selection of Japanese teas from various regions of the country, with a particular focus on their taste and aromas.

The shop is particularly well-known for its hōjicha, roasted on-site and recognizable by its warm, toasted notes.

Founded in 1949, Yamariya grew in the heart of Kichijōji, where the establishment has continued its business dedicated to Japanese tea for several decades.

During my year in Japan, I lived near Kichijōji and visited this shop regularly. It was through these visits that I discovered various Japanese teas, notably hōjicha, whose warm and comforting character I particularly enjoyed.

This place, which became familiar during my stay, is naturally one of the shops I wanted to introduce through Tadaima.

Yamariya pays special attention to the selection and preparation of its teas in order to preserve their unique characteristics and reveal their aromas.

The house offers various expressions of Japanese tea, including sencha, kukicha, genmaicha, and hōjicha. The latter holds a special place in the shop: the leaves are roasted to develop their characteristic aromas, with warm, woody, and toasted notes.

For Tadaima, this approach aligns with a shared ambition: to introduce Japanese teas that naturally find their place in everyday life and to accompany tasting moments with our selected ceramics.
